Committee Biographies

Christine Morgan
I have been involved in the world of dog showing and served on the committees of various general and breed clubs since 1975. I owned my first Wire in 2005 and have awarded CCs in them four times. I have served on the HWVA Committee since 2005 taking only a short break in 2012.

Karl Gawthorpe
I have been involved with dogs for the last 43 years, I award CC’s in Labradors and I’m the secretary of the Labrador Retriever Club, Secretary & Treasurer of The Labrador Breed Council and also the BEC for the breed. I have a keen interest in the Hungarian Wirehaired Vizslas having watched the breed develop over the years. I have been lucky enough to judge the breed a few times at open shows, I have attended the Association’s Breed Appreciation Day and passed the multiple-choice exam. I am happy to serve on the committee and I hope that I will be able to bring my years of experience to the club.

Laura de Jong
I live on a working farm in the fabulous Ribble valley and have been involved with working on the board of directors as finance director and later in an advisory capacity, all my working life for different industries so I am hoping my experience will be useful to the committee on a professional level. On a personal level I got my first HWV in 2013 and quickly became hooked. I chose the HWV as wanted something with a bit more spunk than a Labrador. My gamekeeper husband at the time said I would never be able to do anything with it and so the passion began to prove him wrong. I now have a small team of 3 with whom I go picking up on various local shoots 3 days a week during the season on pheasant and grouse. I dipped my toe into showing and working tests with relative success but my heart is firmly fixed in the grass roots working side. As far as I am concerned nothing beats being out in the country on a shoot day working your dogs and receiving praise for the excellent ‘dog’ work. My dogs delight me and frustrate me at times but I could not imagine life without them.

Debra Revell
A dog lover all my life, I have owned Hungarian Wirehaired Vizslas for the past 13 years, and currently have 3. They have all taught me so much in show ring and brought me to show judging, I am on the Breed specialist B list. However, it is their working ability which interests me most, nothing quite like watching your dog catch a scent on the Grouse moors, to see correct conformation translate to working ability. I have entered many working tests and pointing tests, and look forward to spending my early retirement working and training my own dogs. I am also looking forward to serving the HWVA as Working Secretary, planning to provide training, experience and events for your dogs.

Christine Carpenter
I have been in HPRs since 1989 and my breed is the Weimaraner. I have had 13 dogs in that time and have been lucky enough to obtain 8 stud book entries. I have been successful, winning Field Trials, Gundog Working Tests and have several grading at Pointing Tests. I have also bred a Show Champion who went on to get her Champion title. I have been a serving Officer of the Bristol and West Working Gundog Society for 20 years and in that time held the office of HPR Field Trial Secretary for 10 years covering all aspects of field work and for the past 4 years I have served as the Acting General Secretary. I have also for the past 10 years served on the Hunt Point Field Trial Associations as General Secretary and Treasurer. This club being created to provide Clubs a forum to speak on Field Trial matters. I am also a representative on the Kennel Club Field Trial Liaison Council and also served for many years on the committee of the Westbury Canine Society and held office as Chairman. I am a Kennel Club B Panel judge for Field Trials and I give CCs in Weimaraners. I hope my experience will be of service to the HWVA.

Diane Parry
I have owned the breed since 1996 and bred my first litter in 2002. I award Challenge Certificates in this wonderful breed. I have shown the breed since 1996 I have worked the breed picking up and under a Harris Hawk. I am a qualified dog trainer, dog nerd and have a huge interest in early neurological stimulation in litters and canine conformation. In the past have been Secretary of an Open Show.

Emma Darroch
I live with my husband John and HWV Viktor in the semi -rural village of Stonnall near Lichfield, Staffs. I am currently a self- employed gardener who just loves being outside rain or shine, either on an adventure with our Wire or with a trowel in my hand. We chose the HWV as our next four legged friend and companion as the description of the breed suited our lifestyle and we love a challenge! A most wonderful and charismatic breed to which I wanted to contribute to the work of the HWV Association by joining the committee early 2022. I have recently become the membership secretary which I hope my admin and organisation skills from my previous jobs are not wasted!

Bev Smith
I have grown up always having a dog at my side. From a Border Collie cross English Setter at the age of six months to German Shepherds, English Setters, Irish Setters, Border Collies, Hungarian Vizslas and Hungarian Wirehaired Vizslas. They are all breeds I have been privileged to own and love. I began showing in 1991 with my English Setters. A short time later I began to show my Mum, Connie Collins’s, Border Collies and we were both on the committee of The Border Collie Club of GB. Whilst showing my Hungarian Vizsla, I saw my first HWV and fell in love with the breed. I bought my first Wire in 2005 and have never looked back. I first judged the breed in 2011 and I am on the A3 judging list. I enjoy judging this beautiful breed and each time it is a privilege. I own 2 dogs and 5 bitches at the moment, they are my family and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Doreen Smillie-Gray
I purchased by first HWV in 2000 from Barbara and Sharon Pinkerton. I also have German Shorthaired Pointers which I have been involved with for 40 years. The ethos at Oakberrow for all our dogs are temperament, beauty and brains, meaning that they are both successful dogs in the show ring but also work on local shoots picking-up. At Crufts 2006 together with Chris and Peter Guest we were awarded 3rd in the Pickers-up Team class a first for the breed, which we were very proud of achieving. I award CCs in 6 breeds and Gundog Group. I also have had the honour of judging HWVs at Crufts in 2015 and the Breed Championship show in 2013 with a fabulous entry of 90 dogs making 107 entries. I also am on Three Counties Championship Dog Show Committee, Central and Southern German Shorthaired Pointer Committee, Chairman of Hereford Ringcraft.
